Life’s most important information is often shared between spouses, partners, other family members or trusted advisors. By adding a Co-Owner to your vault, you allow another trusted individual to securely help manage and maintain important documents, records, and information alongside you.
A Co-Owner has access to the same items and functionality as the vault owner, helping ensure both individuals stay informed, organized, and connected.
Adding a Co-Owner to a vault
Only the Vault Owner can add a Co-Owner. A Co-Owner helps you actively manage your vault and has access to view, add, and update information.

• They must accept this invitation before they are added as your Co-Owner.
Each vault can have only one Co-Owner.
Accepting a Co-Owner invitation
If someone has been invited to be a Co-Owner, they will receive a Co-Owner invitation email. The user can choose to accept the invitation if they wish. If the user does not yet have a Prisidio account, they will be required to create a free Prisidio account as a part of this process.
In certain situations, a Co-Owner or Keyholder® may be contacted for any issues related to the vault, including custodianship or any issue that may impact continued access. This outreach is intended to ensure the vault remains accessible to those authorized.
Once the user successfully accepts the invitation and logs in to Prisidio, they will be required to accept the Co-Owner invite from the banner message in the application.
The Co-Owner must specify their phone number as a part of this process. This is required in case they need to be contacted in the event there is ever a question regarding the custody of the vault.
The invited Keyholder must complete CLEAR verification after accepting the invitation. Click here to learn more. We recommend using a phone with a camera to complete the CLEAR verification.
For security purposes, vault invitations and Co-Owner invitations will expire in 10 days.
What can a Co-Owner do?
Co-Owners can see any vault items that the vault owner can see. Any item added to the vault is automatically shared with the Co-Owner.
A Co-Owner can add any items they wish to the vault. They also have the ability to add content such as videos, pictures, and notes to those items as well.

What can a Co-Owner not do?
Co-Owner have most of the same rights and privileges that the vault owner has.
They do not have the ability to manage the vault owner’s account; meaning, they cannot take actions like change profile information, edit notifications, or modify billing settings.
A Co-Owner cannot modify their permissions in the vault owner’s vault or remove themselves as Co-Owner.
They have no ability to change the vault owner’s email login or password.
Removing Co-Owner permissions
Only a vault owner can remove Co-Owner permissions. To do this, the vault owner should return to the Co-Owner section under vault settings and choose to remove the Co-Owner assignment from the Co-Owner.
Request vault release
A Co-Owner has the ability to request the release of any vault in which they are a Co-Owner. In the event of a vault owner's passing, the Co-Owner can request to have the vault released to them. When a request is made, a detailed review process is initiated.
To request the release of a vault, a Co-Owner will need to log in to Prisidio and switch to the vault owner’s vault. This can be done by selecting the vault switcher drop down tool on the top navigation menu and choosing the vault they wish to have released. After switching vaults, note the blue banner that indicates your Co-Owner status.
Select the gear icon on the top navigation menu. Under Vault Details, select the button to request the release of the vault. At the Request Vault Release modal, choose Request Release.
The requestor should be on the lookout for a confirmation email detailing the next steps in the vault release process. Please note that because of our thorough review process, the release of a vault may take up to two weeks.
Attempts will be made to contact the vault owner and any Co-Owner or Keyholder® in the vault.
Once the review process has been completed, the vault will be released, and the requestor will gain view only access to everything in the vault.
